Flood Relief Operations in Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, and Tuticorin Districts (2015)

In times of adversity, SCAD’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the impoverished and marginalized shines through. In 2015, when heavy rains wreaked havoc in the districts of Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, and Tuticorin, SCAD was on the ground, responding to the urgent needs of these communities. Our singular aim was to reach those most in need, providing them with counseling, essential medical care, and vital flood relief materials.

Our Approach:

Collaboration with Local NGOs: SCAD forged partnerships with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to ensure a coordinated response to the crisis.

On-Site Visits: We ventured into the affected villages alongside representatives from local NGOs, conducting thorough assessments of the damage caused by the floods.

Comprehensive Door-to-Door Evaluations: Our dedicated teams undertook a meticulous, door-to-door evaluation to gauge the extent of flood-related losses in each affected household.

Needs Assessment: We diligently analyzed the specific needs of the affected populace, with special attention to vulnerable groups like the elderly, women, and children.

Targeted Relief: Flood relief materials were distributed based on the identified needs of individuals and families grappling with the aftermath of the disaster.

Beneficiary Criteria:

Our primary beneficiaries included:

  • Elderly individuals
  • Widows
  • Destitute individuals
  • Women and children
  • People residing in thatched houses
  • People with disabilities

Distribution of Flood Relief Materials:

Flood relief materials took the form of comprehensive packages, each containing 23 essential items, including dry rations, clothing, notebooks, oil, soap, and food. Additionally, we provided basic necessities such as bed sheets, clothing, and biscuits, tailored to the specific needs of each family.
