The staff of Anbu Illam (school for differently-abled children) took an initiative to give special coaching to the students in such a way that they could try for the Tamil Nadu Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) State Board examinations for the academic year 2011-2012. The Indian charity 'The Association of People with Disabilities' claims 17 million people with disabilities in India do not receive support such as mobility aids. SCAD is working with VOTOL to help support young people with physical and mental disabilities. We are fortunate enough to have two Belgium OT (Occupational Therapist) students completing 3 month internships at SCAD working with differently-abled students at the residential school and in the community. SCAD have built up an invaluable relationship with the KHBO University in Brugge, Belgium and have OT students come every year to SCAD.
