Milestones

1985 – 1995

• Started working in five villages in and around Cherenmahadevi.
• Initiated development program for Gypsies, Leprosy affected and Saltpan workers
• First formal school for Gypsy children established
• Introduced Supplementary nutrition for poor children in schools.
• Started School cum residential care centre for the physically challenged children
• Responded to flood affected people in Tuticorin and Tirunelveli District which includes the construction of 1000 houses.

1996 – 2005

• Provided disaster relief to people in drought prone and semi arid villages of Tuticorin district
• The KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra) Farm Science Centre was opened in Vagaikulam, Tuticorin.
• Industrial Training Institute and Community College started in Cherenmahadevi and Vagaikulam.
• Started “Surabhi” micro finance program to support Women Self-help members
• Tsunami relief and rehabilitation work in Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts of Tamil Nadu.

2006 – 2015

• The first wind turbine was commissioned
• More than 100 women from SCAD NIRMAN SHG groups elected as village presidents, ward members and councillors in local body election.
• An orthotics and prosthetics unit and training centre was opened at Cherenmahadevi.
• A Health center and community hall built for Leprosy affected people in Pettai.
• Introduced mobile clinic unit to provide treatment and therapy to the differently abled at their doorstep.
• Soil fertility and Bio energy center was established in Cheranmahadevi to promote bio-char and bio-digester
• Started Special Education Teachers Training institute and SCAD Medical and Disability Rehabilitation Centre at Ponnakudi.
• Started a pilot project to ensure nutritional supplement for pregnant mothers, babies and lactating mothers.
• Community Agro Centre was opened in Vilathikulam.

2016 – 2022

• SCAD Agro centre was started at Tharuvai Tirunelveli
• SCAD , Microbiology brewing unit was started in Tirunelveli
• Appropriate Paper Based Technology (APT) Research, Training and Production centre was started at Cheranmahadevi, Tirunelveli
• Eco House Model at Cheranmahadevi was established which earned Platinum award from Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)
• SCAD Centre for Sustainable Initiatives was established at Cheranmahadevi, Tirunelveli
• Nirman Nurseries were started at Tharuvai, Tirunelveli and Vilathikulam, Tuticorin District
