‘Loving Greetings from SCAD!’ (a lovely phrase that is used at the start of most emails here)
Like all good journeys and adventures it has been a bumpy road and at times it has been very hard but it has also been amazing and breath-taking. I can also honesty say that I am happy. I sometimes say that I must have been Indian in my past life – I love the food, the culture, the people, the colours and I also love eating with my hand (Not so keen on the poverty, inequality and filth but you can’t have everything).
At first I was pretty overwhelmed by the enormity of it all and the feeling of sheer insignificance in the scale of everything. I really questioned my naivety of thinking I could come here and make a difference. I described it as ‘polishing sand on a beach the size of China’; a great response I got from a friend was that you “only need to polish a bucket load to make a castle”. So I have set out trying to find my grains to polish. I am here for another few months working with the brilliant Dr Cletus Babu & Dr Amali Babu and their highly dedicated rural development team. I am hoping to help in some small way and to learn from them all. I am honoured to be here and I am soaking up every second!
Keep an eye on the blog for little updates of what we are working on…
‘Loving wishes from India’,
Kate
