We would like to start working with five new villages in Tamil Nadu. At SCAD in partnership with our UK charity Salt of the Earth we run a sponsor a village scheme. This is a pioneering opportunity for communities in the UK and Europe to support community development in villages in Southern India. With your help we can change people’s lives.
This core funding pays for a village volunteer and part of the salary of a professional field worker. Between them they provide consistent support and assistance to the villagers in initiatives including
– mobilising women’s self help groups, water and health committees and enterprise training
– supporting micro-finance
– primary and specialised healthcare
– creative and supplementary education
– water and sanitation programmes
– organic agriculture or kitchen gardens initiatives.
In addition, based on the requirements of the village populations, specific projects can also be undertaken, for example, care for lepers and support for the elderly.
Because we are from Tamil Nadu and intimately know these communities we can make a real difference to their quality of life. We are looking for sponsors for villages in Tamil Nadu. £1,500 a year for five years would mean that we can support a whole village of people from abject poverty to a greater degree of self-reliance. This is a fantastic gift to be able to give a community.
If you are interested in giving this gift or know of any contacts that might have the resources to help with this task please get in touch with us at info@scad.org.in
